Chip Performance Profiling Engineer - Member of Technical Staff
About the role
The role involves building the instrument that generates visibility for the rest of the stack. This includes developing a profiler generation agent, per-operation attribution, and counter and telemetry discovery. The ideal candidate will have experience profiling complex systems, a strong understanding of low-level systems, and fluency in Python and at least one systems language.
Responsibilities
- Build the instrument that generates visibility for the rest of the stack.
- Develop a profiler generation agent that takes a supported chip and builds a working profiler for it.
- Break down an inference pass to attribute runtime to every operation and sub-operation.
- Reimplement the features engineers already rely on to profile, on accelerators that never shipped a profiler of their own.
- Find and validate signals on parts where the performance monitoring unit is undocumented or has to be inferred from behavior.
- Keep the act of measuring from changing the timing it measures.
- Turn a wall of measurements into the specific thing standing between the current code and more performance.
Requirements
Strong candidates will have real performance analysis experience, a low-level systems background, comfort building measurement tools when the documentation for what you're measuring is thin or absent, statistical care, and fluency in Python and at least one systems language (Rust, C, or C++).
