About the role
Join Our Team as a Full-Time Programming Technician! Sterling Municipal Library is seeking an energetic and community-minded Full-Time Programming Technician to help create engaging experiences for children and families. In this role, you’ll help plan and present Story Times, children's programs, and outreach activities. You'll work directly with children, families, educators, and community partners to deliver inviting programs and create connections between the library and the community!
Responsibilities
- Assists with programs, outreach activities, circulation services, and patron use of library resources and technology.
- Provides customer service and technical assistance to the public while supporting daily library operations.
- Aids patrons with library accounts, circulation transactions, reference services, and general library services.
- Helps patrons use public computers, printers, copiers, scanners, fax machines, and other library technology.
- Performs a variety of administrative, clerical, and public service duties to support the efficient delivery of library services.
- Assists with planning and facilitating programs such as Story Times, children and family activities, youth and adult activities, outreach, makerspace, STEM, and special library programs.
- Creates program materials, displays, and presentations that enhance participant engagement.
- Represents the library at community events, schools, daycare centers, and other outreach opportunities.
- Searches for materials requested by patrons, recommends substitutions to patrons or purchases to professional staff, performs readers' advisory services.
- Sherds and organizes the library collections to ensure materials are accurately filed, accessible, and presented in an orderly manner.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record (must obtain TX driver’s license within 90 days)
- One year of related experience in a library or other customer service or community-centered environment
- Availability to work evenings and weekends
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
Preferred
- Associates or Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university in Education, Library Science, Child Development, Communications, or a related field
- Experience working with children, families, and the public
- Experience creating presentations, flyers, or program materials using Canva or similar tools
- Bilingual skills: Spanish

- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and common office technology
- Strong organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Strong public speaking and presentation skills
- Knowledge of age-appropriate programming activities and reference materials for children
- Sound judgment in addressing behavioral issues, including those related to mental health or policy violations, while maintaining a welcoming and safe library environment
