Children and Family Services - Respite Provider

Location: On-site in family home in Peabody, Massachusetts.

About the role

We seek a compassionate and dedicated Respite Provider to offer supportive and enriching care for children ages 5-22 with intellectual, developmental, and other disabilities. You will work one-on-one with individuals and their families, supporting their progress both at home and in the community.

Schedule

3-6 hours weekly, based on a schedule agreed upon with the family and supervisor.

Pay

This is a non-exempt, per-diem position with an hourly rate of $21.00. You will be a union member of SEIU Local 509.

Responsibilities

  • Provide a safe and positive environment where individuals can explore new pastimes and are offered opportunities for growth and social-skill development.
  • Implement activities in the community, promoting an atmosphere of acceptance where individuals are welcomed and present a positive image to the greater community.
  • Encourage and promote self-advocacy skills.
  • Interact with families in a professional, courteous manner.
  • Act as a liaison between families and program staff, educating families around program and community resources.
  • Ensure requests for supports, respite agreements, and/or other miscellaneous paperwork is completed and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Encourage age-appropriate, normalizing behavior in a sensitive and caring manner through modeling, redirection, and conversation.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • At least 2 years’ experience working with persons with disabilities preferred.
  • Specific clinical skills in specialized areas (hearing, visual, physical impairments, behavior management, medical needs, crisis intervention, etc.) a plus.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English to accurately follow support plans, document services provided, and communicate effectively with individuals, families, staff, and healthcare professionals.
  • Minimum of one year of driving experience and a valid driver’s license in good standing.
