About the role
This person will implement predetermined daily program activities under the guidance and direction of the Childcare Teacher.
Responsibilities
- Aid the Childcare Teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate daily program activities that align with the Center/program's philosophy and children's goals.
- Comply with all requirements for the protection and safety of Center children as directed by the Group Leader.
- Assist the Childcare Teacher with the safe arrival and departure of children.
- Follow the Center's plan for dealing with medical emergencies and site evacuations as required.
- Assist the Childcare Teacher with assessments of children as requested and/or participate in parent conferences, as needed.
- Assist program staff with serving meals and snacks to children.
- Maintain classroom materials and equipment in a safe and orderly manner.
- Take responsibility for classroom operation in the absence of the Childcare Teacher.
- Maintain up-to-date, accurate written records on children's attendance, results of screenings, assessments, meals, and parent contacts.
- Participate in staff development opportunities.
- Attend staff and joint academic program and Center planning meetings.
- Serve as a positive role model for the Center's children, Penn College students, and volunteers.
- Encourage parental involvement in related Center activities.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED or equivalency.
- Required: Fifteen (15) credit hours in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Elementary Education or Special Education.
- Preferred: Associate's Degree in Early Childhood Education.
- Preferred: Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
- Required: Two (2) years work experience with young children (birth to 8 years) unless candidate possesses an Associate degree; OR, one (1) year experience and 15 credit hours in ECE or related discipline.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Interpersonal skills necessary to deal effectively and courteously with children and parents.
- Sensitivity to the expectations of children and parents.
- Knowledge of Pennsylvania regulations related to Child Care Centers.
- Developed organizational skills.
- Current Pediatric CPR and First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
Skills
- Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Pay
Hourly rate is $12.80. This is not a complete itemization of all facets of this position.
