Childcare Music Instructor

About the role

We are looking for a Childcare Music Instructor to join our School of Rock Rockville location. This role focuses on our Little Wing (ages 4-5) and Rookies (ages 6-7) classes, creating a warm, supportive, and inspiring environment for young musicians. Instructors encourage children to reach developmental milestones through fun musical activities and playing rock and roll instruments. We teach five core areas: keys, vocals, guitar, bass, and drums, and welcome broader musical talent.

Responsibilities

• Maximize the quality of music instruction, including private lessons and shows
• Ensure students learn the fundamentals of music, not just songs
• Create and document thoughtful lesson plans
• Communicate regularly with parents about student progress after lessons
• Be visible and accessible in the school to interact with parents and students
• Assist in rehearsals and basic school maintenance
• Help with recruiting and enrolling students
• Pitch in during canceled lessons to support overall program execution

Requirements

• 4+ years’ experience teaching and/or performing music professionally
• Passion for and/or experience working with children under the age of seven (7)
• Classroom/early childhood education experience preferred
• Knowledge of music theory and curriculum design, including rhythm, notation, pop, and rock genres
• Excellent ability to engage with a wide range of customers, including children and parents
• Enthusiastic, flexible, patient, and positive demeanor
• Strong organizational and customer relations skills (phone and in-person)
• Resourceful and good problem-solver
• Ability to work well under pressure
• Proficiency on at least one: guitar, keyboard/piano, drums, or voice
• Good judgment is a must
• Part-time role with some weekend day availability required
