Childcare Assistant Teacher

About the role

The Childcare Assistant Teacher supports the YMCA's mission to strengthen communities through Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The Octorara YMCA is hiring two Assistant Teachers to work with infants from 7 AM to 1 PM and preschoolers from 1 PM to 6 PM.

Responsibilities

• Maintain supervision of all students.
• Provide a safe, clean, and risk-free environment.
• Engage with the children to encourage their development and involvement in activities.
• Maintain maintenance records, including accident and incident reports, sign-in/out sheets, and attendance records.
• Greet parents and children daily and report or direct parental concerns to the lead teacher or director.
• Use positive guidance to support children.
• Follow DHS procedures and help others do as well.
• Provide care for the needs of children.
• Ensure compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and 2,500 hours of service (2 years) of childcare experience, preferred 30 credit hours of early childhood, elementary, or related human services field education, OR 15 college credit hours and one-year experience related to the care.
• Must have a current CDA certificate.
• Must keep an up-to-date DHS file.
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire.
• Work conditions and physical demands include frequent standing, sitting, walking, communication, hearing, frequent lifting up to 25 pounds, and exposure to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.
