About the Role
The Childcare Assistant supports the Pre-K or Preschool classroom teacher and the Childcare Specialist with planning and supervising the before- and/or after-school program.
Schedule
Split shift: 6:45 A.M. – 8:45 A.M. & 1:15 P.M. – 6:15 P.M.

Responsibilities
- Assist the Pre-K/Preschool teacher with daily classroom operations
- Support on-site operations, including activity planning, staff supervision, and child supervision for Kids Club and/or Early Bird
- Maintain compliance with Arizona Department of Health Services Rules and Regulations
- Establish and maintain positive rapport with students, employees, and the community
- Keep the classroom teacher, Childcare Specialist, and Child Care Coordinator informed of staff and student activities
- Order necessary supplies to carry out program activities
- Maintain an inventory of equipment at the site
- Maintain acceptable behavior standards consistent with district and program policy
- Cultivate supportive relationships with the staff of the host school
- Assist with record keeping for the site
- Complete a minimum of 18 verifiable hours of approved training annually per Arizona Department of Health Services regulations
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must meet staff qualifications to be a Facility Director’s designee under section R9-5-401 of the Arizona Administrative Code
- Must be at least 21 years of age
- Written documentation of one of the following:
- High school diploma or high school equivalency diploma,
- 12 months of qualifying child care experience and completion of at least 3 credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field at an accredited college or university, or
- 30 actual training hours in early childhood or a closely related field
- One of the following licensing requirements:
- N.A.C., C.D.A., C.C.P., or C.P.C. credential and at least 12 months of qualifying child care experience
- A minimum of 24 credit hours from an accredited college or university with at least 6 credit hours in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field, and 12 months of qualifying child care experience
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field, and 6 months of qualifying child care experience
- Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood, child development, or a closely related field, and 3 months of qualifying child care experience
- If qualifying with less than an associate’s degree or 60 college credit hours, must pass the ParaPro Assessment exam
- Valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
- At the time of interview, provide:
- A copy of a high school diploma or GED
- A copy of college transcripts and/or diploma (if applicable)
- Copies of training/workshop/seminar certificates (if applicable)
- After interviewing, recommended hires must provide:
- Proof of a negative Mantoux TB test within the last year
- A signed immunization statement against measles, rubella, diphtheria, mumps, and pertussis
- A valid Department of Public Safety (DPS) Arizona IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card (FPCC)
- A signed Criminal History Affidavit
- Background in early childhood education or related fields
- Experience with school-age and/or Pre-K/Preschool children in a group setting
- Hold current first aid and CPR certification or be able to obtain within 30 days
- Effective communication skills
Physical Requirements
- Reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, finger dexterity, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions
- Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects
- Use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work
Return-to-work retirees will have an hourly rate approximately 9% lower than listed without falling below minimum wage.
