About the Role
The Child Watch Attendant promotes the highest quality service in the care of children of the YMCA’s members and participants, while supporting the association’s mission through oversight and development of this service.
Responsibilities
- Assists in establishing and maintaining a safe and healthful environment:
- Maintains efficient, well-arranged areas.
- Keeps equipment and materials in good repair and stored safely.
- Cleans and sanitizes toys weekly and as needed.
- Maintains cleanliness of participation areas (washes tables before and after snack, sweeps floors, cleans spills promptly, etc.).
- Provides materials and activities appropriate for children.
- Supports children’s social-emotional development and provides positive guidance.
- Assists children with self-help training (dressing, toileting, handwashing, eating, etc.).
- Uses appropriate group management techniques.
- Encourages daily health routines such as hand washing.
- Provides adequate supervision to ensure safety and engagement of children.
- Assists in establishing positive and productive communication with families:
- Maintains contact with parents through verbal and written communication.
- Speaks with families in a friendly, courteous, and respectful manner.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements
- One to two years of related experience preferred.
- Completion of the following within 30 days of hire:
- Working with Program Volunteers
- CPR certification
- First Aid certification
- AED certification
- Bloodborne Pathogens training
- YMCA program-specific certifications
Physical Demands
- Ability to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
- Ability to lift a minimum of 35 pounds.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to interact with children at their level (e.g., sitting on the floor).
