Position Summary

This position supports the mission and work of the YMCA, a leading nonprofit organization. The Child Watch Assistant supervises children in the YMCA Child Watch Program, ensuring their well-being and adherence to YMCA guidelines and policies.

Essential Functions

  • Models YMCA core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
  • Develops and maintains positive relationships with individuals and groups, fostering member engagement and loyalty.
  • Maintains physical presence, remains alert, and is aware of surroundings.
  • Knows and responds to emergency procedures immediately, completing related reports as required.
  • Fulfills ambassador role for all YMCA programs, focusing on membership and engagement.
  • Performs equipment checks and ensures availability, cleaning and storing equipment according to branch procedures.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and trainings.
  • Willing to contribute to the overall success of the YMCA, even beyond the position description.

Requirements

  • Desire and ability to work with and relate to children.
  • Experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 11 years old preferred.
  • Willingness to accept supervision and guidance.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach and assist in teaching skills and activities.
  • Good role model with integrity and adaptability.
  • Remains calm and objective under pressure or challenging situations.
  • Effective communication skills for informing, counseling, motivating, and supporting members.
  • Must be observant, safety-conscious, and able to react calmly and quickly in emergencies.
  • Completes annual safety, combating sexual harassment, and child abuse prevention trainings.
  • Has current CPR and First Aid certifications.
  • Can lift up to 50 pounds and is able to stand for long periods and bend frequently.
  • Exposed to illness-causing bacteria and viruses.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift and carry children and equipment.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting and frequent bending.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others.

Work Environment

The job operates in a recreational and/or educational environment. Employees may be exposed to undesirable working conditions, communicable infectious diseases, and risk of injury from others. All employees are required to follow the YMCA's preventative health policies. The noise level in the work environment is moderate to high.
