Child Support Specialist

About the role

The Child Support Specialist provides full services to customers in all stages of the child support process. The Specialist interviews customers by telephone and in person to determine service needs and identify the next step in case management. Extensive training on child support processes and procedures is provided.

Responsibilities

• Initiates locate procedures, including finding customer addresses, employment, and assets.
• Obtains and processes information necessary for establishing child support orders.
• Conducts interviews with customers receiving and paying support.
• Answers phones to assist customers and respond to requests.
• Accesses system data, including state-specific systems and internet resources, to obtain relevant case information.
• Prepares cases and necessary legal/administrative documents for review and approval by staff attorneys or supervisors.
• Identifies administrative and legal remedies needed for enforcement of support orders.
• Files legal pleadings, orders, and other documents with the appropriate clerk of court.
• Enters docket numbers and court dates into the state computer system.
• Attends court with assigned attorney and actively assists in case resolution.
• Completes attorney-directed court follow-up within required time frames.
• Maintains confidentiality and security of case information.
• Ensures regular and timely attendance.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Minimum of 1-year related work experience is preferred (e.g., human services, case management, or child support).
• Familiarity with an office environment and automated systems is desired.
