Child Nutrition Food Server

Reporting to the Cafeteria Manager within the Child Nutrition Services department. This is a 172-day position compensated per the negotiated agreement.

To serve nutritious, economical, pleasing meals and a la carte foods to students while following all local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Quantity food preparation experience desirable
• Math skills for recipe conversions
• Valid food handler’s permit
• Must be able to comply with essential duties criteria for this job description

Essential job functions

• Occasional squat, crawl, kneel, lift up to 75 lbs
• Frequent bend, stoop, climb to heights, crouch, balance, push/pull, reach above shoulder, lift 0-50 lbs
• Work around moving machines, unprotected heights, dust, fumes, gases, elevated scaffolding, ladders, or machinery
• Work with industrial cleaning equipment, mechanical equipment, and food service equipment
• Computer skills
• Supervise assigned helpers and projects to completion
• Maintain special licensing or certification
• Exposure to outside working conditions and wheelchair students
• Maintain sanitary working and instructional areas
• Follow daily schedule
• Ability to deal with confidential information

Responsibilities

• Know and recognize what constitutes a reimbursable meal
• Prepare food following standardized recipes according to local, state, and federal regulations and guidelines
• Serve food that looks appealing, tastes good, and adheres to proper food temperatures
• Maintain high standards of safety, sanitation, and food storage
• Operate and clean all kitchen equipment according to the manufacturer’s guidelines
• Assist other workers as needed or assigned
• Maintain confidentiality of free and reduced status of students
• Attend staff development
• Notify manager of needed maintenance or repairs related to kitchen and equipment
• Notify manager as stock runs low
• Provide exceptional customer service and respond to student and/or parent concerns
• Perform custodial duties related to student meal service
• Perform other duties as assigned
