About the role

We are seeking an energetic, collaborative leader and team member to lead and support child nutrition programs in Oakland County's 28 local districts. The ideal candidate will ensure compliance with applicable laws, regulations, and grant requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates and delivers programming, designs and updates curriculum, and provides technical assistance with compliance towards meeting the mandates specified in the Healthy Hunger Free Kids Act (HHFKA).
  • Conducts professional development programs for adult learners with identified focus areas as required by federal law (HHFKA) for school district administrators and child nutrition professionals in Oakland County and at the State & National level.
  • Maintains expertise on all aspects of food service, food safety, and child nutrition standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Co-administrates the MOR (Macomb, Oakland, and Wayne RESA) Food Purchasing Cooperative with Wayne RESA on behalf of member districts in each county and across the State of Michigan.
  • Serves as legislative liaison to external agencies such as the Michigan Department of Education, universities, and professional organizations.
  • Represents Oakland County school district child nutrition programs at state and national legislative and regulatory forums.
  • Calculates and analyzes Oakland County child nutrition program statistics and trend data; generates and distributes related reports to food service & business administrators in local districts within Oakland County on a monthly and annual basis.
  • Captures and negotiates Inter-Governmental Agreements (IGA’s) between local districts and Oakland Schools.
  • Assists local districts with coordinating third-party Food Service Management contracts with vendors and MDE.
  • Leads and coordinates the Oakland and Genesee County Beverage Consortium and leads all board meetings, develops and distributes all coop communications, RFP development and contract negotiations on behalf of 13 Coop member districts throughout 4 different counties.
  • Supervises the day-to-day activities of assigned staff. Duties include hiring, training, coaching, evaluating performance, and, when necessary, disciplining staff.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Nutrition or Dietetics, Hospitality/Food Systems Management, Statistics, Operation Systems, or Organizational Management.
  • 6-7 years’ work experience in the field of Federal child nutrition program operations management.
  • SNS Credential (School Nutrition Specialist), Serv Safe Certified Proctor, Serv Safe Certified, Serv Safe Certified Instructor.

Qualifications

While not required, candidates with the following qualifications are preferred:

  • Experience in legislative and regulatory efforts for child nutrition issues.
  • Experience leading and coordinating beverage consortia.
  • Experience in developing and implementing departmental systems, standard operating procedures, technologies, and record-keeping practices.

Skills

  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Benefits

Salary details: $95,801 - $111,102 salary based on relevant prior work experience, with the potential to earn up to $119,646 after employment with Oakland Schools. Exempt position / 12-month work year.
