Child Nutrition Assistant - Myhre Elementary

Bismarck Public Schools is accepting applications for a Child Nutrition Assistant at Myhre Elementary School beginning the 2026-2027 school year. This position works 6 hours per day and follows the school calendar.

About the Role

The Child Nutrition Assistant supports food service activities at assigned locations, ensuring nutritional requirements are met and sanitary conditions are maintained.

Responsibilities

• Attend unit meetings, in-service training, and workshops to gather and convey job-related information.
• Maintain cleanliness of utensils, equipment, and food preparation and serving areas.
• Prepare food from scratch or prepared items to meet nutritional and meal requirements.
• Adjust food preparation amounts and recipes to minimize waste.
• Assess prepared foods for flavor, appearance, and temperature.
• Verify the quantity, quality, and specifications of food items to meet health standards.
• Inventory food, condiments, and supplies to ensure availability for menu requirements.
• Maintain equipment and food service areas in compliance with health standards.
• Monitor kitchen and cafeteria areas to ensure a safe working environment.
• Perform functions of other nutritional services positions as needed for staff coverage.
• Prepare foods and beverages to meet nutritional and health standards with appealing presentation.
• Report equipment malfunctions to maintain safe working conditions.
• Serve food items to meet nutritional requirements and requests of students and staff.
• Stock food, condiments, and supplies to maintain adequate quantities and security.
• Follow school policies and procedures.
• Perform additional duties as assigned to support the work unit.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Job-related experience.
• Post-offer physical exam and criminal justice fingerprint/background clearance.
• Participation in ongoing training as required.

Skills

• Adhering to safety practices.
• Operating commercial kitchen equipment.
• Using pertinent software applications.
• Basic math skills (fractions, percents, ratios).
• Knowledge of safety practices, food preparation, handling, and sanitation.
• Ability to schedule activities, gather and collate data, and work flexibly with others.
• Ability to operate equipment using standardized methods and set priorities as part of a team.
• Ability to handle interruptions and work with diverse individuals.

Work Environment

• Physical demands include lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine finger dexterity.
• Requires 2% sitting, 50% walking, and 48% standing.
• Work under temperature extremes and conditions with exposure to risk of injury or illness.
• Work under direct supervision following standardized procedures.
• Provide information and advice to others while operating within a defined budget.

Pay

Salary Grade SF (Non-Exempt).

Schedule

6 hours per day, following the school calendar.
