Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Child Life programs to address the psychological, emotional, and developmental needs of pediatric patients and their families.
- Coordinate, schedule, and supervise special events in inpatient pediatric areas.
- Collaborate with marketing and public affairs for activities such as photography, filming, and media interviews.
- Create strategies to reduce child fear and anxiety related to healthcare experiences.
- Prepare patients and families for procedures using therapeutic play and assess their developmental and emotional needs.
- Identify and apply coping strategies for children and families facing hospitalization, illness, or loss.
- Provide consultation to healthcare staff on developmental and behavioral issues affecting care.
- Maintain records of services provided and monitor departmental budget and resources.
- Offer Child Life consultations to support children visiting hospitalized patients.
Requirements
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) in Pennsylvania upon hire
- Bachelor’s degree in Child Life or related field
- At least 1 year experience working with children in a healthcare setting
- Basic Life Support certification (AHA) upon hire
Skills
- Strong interpersonal skills, ability to develop therapeutic relationships, and cultural sensitivity
- Ability to evaluate developmental stages and emotional states and adapt interventions accordingly
- Physical ability to lift 40-50 lbs, stand, walk, and perform activities such as kneeling and bending
