Child Life Specialist II
About the role
The Child Life Specialist II demonstrates advanced skills in supporting children and families through therapeutic activities, developmental assessments, and psychosocial support during healthcare visits. They assess patient and family needs, interpret responses to illness and procedures, and implement supportive play interventions. They facilitate topics such as stress management, coping, and family dynamics through informal interactions or group sessions. The role includes documenting observations, managing resources within budget, and serving as a resource for services available locally and within the organization. They supervise interns, volunteers, and students, providing guidance and evaluation. The position also involves program evaluation and collaboration with healthcare team members to enhance patient care.
Responsibilities
- Assess patient and family needs, develop and implement therapeutic interventions.
- Facilitate stress and coping topics through various support methods.
- Document observations and responses to interventions.
- Manage materials and resources supporting therapeutic activities.
- Serve as a resource for community and organizational services.
- Supervise and mentor interns, volunteers, and students.
- Collaborate with healthcare team to improve patient experience.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Child Life or related field required; Master’s preferred.
- Completion of a 600-hour child life internship under supervision.
- Minimum of 2 years paid experience as a Certified Child Life Specialist.
- Maintains Child Life Certification; BLS certification preferred or required within 90 days.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish is advantageous.
