About the role
Meets the basic psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families to reduce the stress and anxiety accompanying hospitalization and other health care encounters.
Responsibilities
- Gathers information and documents the psychosocial needs of patients and families through patient/family meetings, nursing reports, and consultation with medical staff.
- Ensures patients and families receive appropriate clinical services, medical plans, preparation for medical events, assistance with hospitalization and diagnosis, emotional support, and discharge planning.
- Provides patients and families with developmental services including group activities and interventions.
- Maintains a safe activity room with appropriate materials and supplies to make it conducive to play, with documented attendance and interventions.
- Supervises, orients, and trains volunteers and interns to provide quality interactions with patients.
- Provides a positive, supportive, and cooperative attitude with customers and reports suggestions for positive change.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (Required)
- Direct 3-month Child Life internship (Required)
- Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) – Association of Child Life Professionals (ACLP) (Recommended)
Pay
Most new hires start between $21.70–$27.10 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
