Child Life Spec/On-call/UKHC

About the role

The child life specialist provides for the psychosocial needs of patients and families receiving medical care within Golisano Children's at UK and UK Healthcare. Through developmentally appropriate interventions, this position ensures children and families positively cope to master hospitalization and illness.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychosocial support to patients and families receiving medical care
• Implement developmentally appropriate interventions to help children and families cope with hospitalization and illness

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree (BA) required
• Child Life Certification from the Association of Child Life Professionals within 18 months of hire date
• Completion of 600-hour child life internship or experience working with children in a health care setting
• Understanding of human/child growth and development, family process, and play theory related to child life practice
• Understanding of effective communication skills
• Knowledge and skill in group work with children
• Knowledge of stress and coping theory
• Physical requirements: Lifting, communicating using the spoken word

Qualifications

• Master's Degree preferred in child life, child development or related field of study
• 1 to 2 years of experience with children in a health care setting preferred

Pay

$19.00-30.09/hour

Schedule

On-call position with shifts available days, evenings, and nights
