Child Find Coordinator
This is a remote, full-time position based in West Virginia. Strong preference for residents of West Virginia. Some travel within Charleston, West Virginia is required.
About the Role
The Child Find Coordinator oversees the Child Find Process, including referrals for Special Education initial evaluations. This position reports to the Academic Administrator of Special Programs and interacts daily with families, school administrators, teachers, related services providers, and compliance monitors. The role supports the mission of West Virginia Virtual Academy (WVVA), a Stride K12 partner school, to provide an individualized and engaging educational experience for students through school and community partnerships, a rigorous curriculum, and a data-driven instructional model.
Responsibilities
- Facilitate and ensure implementation of school district-approved processes and data collection policies.
- Serve as a daily resource to school administrators, leadership teams, and stakeholders regarding Child Find issues.
- Provide ongoing training and support to school/district staff on Child Find and data collection procedures.
- Support teachers in documenting student progress and prepare documentation for Child Find meetings.
- Coordinate the pre-referral process for special education services, including cases where students have been unsuccessful in the Multi-Tier Support Services (MTSS) process, parents have requested testing, or students are transferring from out-of-state.
- Complete all associated forms and documentation, including initial consent, eligibility recommendations, and Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
- Make referrals for evaluations by specialists (e.g., speech pathologist, school psychologist, physical therapist) and coordinate information within mandated timeframes.
- Refer eligible students for caseload placement.
- Support data collection and coordination of interventions (MTSS process) with general and special education staff.
- Work with the special education team to facilitate eligibility for special education services.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree.
- Three (3) years of related professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Thorough knowledge of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Family Educational Rights & Privacy Act (FERPA) guidelines.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, Visio) and web tools.
- Ability to travel 20% of the time.
- Ability to clear required background check.
- Valid teaching certificate; if from another state, must obtain West Virginia reciprocity within 60 days of employment.
Qualifications
- Three (3) or more years of special education teaching or case management experience.
- Three (3) or more years of experience in an online school setting.
Work Environment
The Child Find Coordinator works part-time each week in the West Virginia Virtual Academy office located in Charleston, West Virginia. The role requires the ability to work independently, typically 40+ hours per week, and maintain a professional home office without distraction during work hours (typically 9 AM–5 PM or 8 AM–4 PM, or as defined by the school).
Pay
Salary range starts at $48,000, with eligibility for performance bonuses and stipends.
