About the Role

Under the supervision of the ECEC Director and Program Coordinator, receive work direction from Lead Teachers (CDC Teacher II) in the planning and implementation of daily curriculum for a quality program serving children aged three months to five years. Work closely with Lead Teacher to maintain program quality, adhering to State Licensing regulations (Title 22), developmental profiles for all children, and the National Association for the Education of Young Children Accreditation Standards.

Responsibilities

• Plan, prepare, and implement age-appropriate activities in daily curriculum areas such as language, art, dramatic play, multicultural and social justice awareness, manipulative toys, block play, problem solving, science, nutrition, and outdoor play.
• Observe and document children’s progress using current assessment tools.
• Constantly monitor safety factors and required adult-child ratios.
• Create and maintain a warm, positive classroom environment that is inclusive and promotes mutual respect.
• Acknowledge and respect the integrity of each child, encouraging the development of a positive self-image.
• Assist children with hygiene (washing, diapering, toileting) and monitor health needs.
• Assist with meal and snack service.
• Ensure all working areas are safe, sanitary, and orderly.
• Maintain best practices to ensure visual observation of children at all times to prevent unsupervised situations.
• Follow established health and safety procedures for handling emergencies as identified in the ECEC Handbook.
• Interact with parents daily, providing brief reports of the child’s experience and conducting regular Parent-Teacher conferences.
• Assist the Lead Teacher in documenting child attendance records, correspondence, child observation notes, lesson plans, accident reports, and assessments.

Requirements

• Experience working with children aged three months to five years in a formal childcare environment (e.g., nanny services, caregiving, camp counseling).
• Educational background in fields such as Psychology, Language Arts, or Human Development.
• Experience assisting with the implementation of age-appropriate developmental classroom activities (e.g., literacy, dance, art, music, nutrition, science, outdoor activities).
• Experience performing light housekeeping, soiled clothes changes, and diapering duties.
• Understanding of health and safety issues in the classroom and childcare environment.
• Knowledge of emergency response procedures and ability to act quickly and calmly in hazardous situations.
• Ability to relate to children individually and in small or large groups.
• Strong interpersonal skills, positive attitude, and ability to accomplish goals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with diverse groups, including parents, children, teachers, staff, and faculty.
• Ability to make sound judgments in childcare situations.
• Ability to read, write, and speak English clearly to be understood by young children.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, in writing, and electronically.

Qualifications

• Must possess and maintain a Child Development Teacher Permit (or above) from the State of California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
• Must show proof of completion of three college-level units of Infant/Toddler coursework or enroll in such coursework within 4 months of hire and complete it within 12 months.
• Must possess and maintain current First Aid/CPR Certification, including pediatric first-aid training (managing a blocked airway and rescue breathing for infants and children).
• Must possess and maintain current TB Clearance and Health Screening Report.
• Must possess and maintain current immunization records, including influenza, pertussis, and measles.
• Must pass an FBI/Department of Justice Livescan background check and clearance through Community Care Licensing prior to hire.
• Physical ability to lift up to 40 pounds as necessary.

• This position is identified as a Mandated Reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA).

Pay

Annual Full Pay Range: $47,586 - $66,691 (prorated if appointment percentage is less than 100%)
Hourly Equivalent: $22.79 - $31.94
