About the role

The Arc Montgomery County's Karasik and Family, Infant & Childcare Center (KFICCC) has a vacancy for a Childcare Teacher. This position is available in Silver Spring, Maryland, near Holy Cross Hospital. The center is Maryland's only fully inclusive childcare center, offering a family-centered program that includes embedded preschool, special education, access to early intervention therapies, and on-site nursing support.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise and train within the assigned classroom, ensuring duties are completed appropriately.
  • Evaluate employees and volunteers within the assigned classroom, providing feedback as needed.
  • Manage communication and collaboration among the teaching team to benefit children and families.
  • Facilitate and model inclusive interactions and relationships, providing inclusive choices and opportunities for decision-making.
  • Plan, prepare, and implement activities and curriculum to benefit children and meet their needs.
  • Ensure individual care plans and IEPs are appropriate and implemented correctly.
  • Utilize developmental/educational screening and inventory tools to validate progress and support updating goals.
  • Promote increased independence in all aspects of life, especially communication, activities of daily living, and community engagement.
  • Aid in establishing and maintaining healthy relationships which expand social circles.
  • Provide appropriate care to all children, maintaining visual and auditory supervision, and adhering to required adult:child ratios.
  • Assist with health needs, implementing necessary precautions or procedures.
  • Document and record support services provided, ensuring accuracy and compliance with policies.
  • Report incidents and maintain records as required, following established policies and procedures.
  • Participate in professional development and credentialing to meet accreditation standards and maintain state childcare credentials.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, or Child Development.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Successful completion of pre-employment medical examination and TB testing.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills and computer proficiency.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, reach, pull, push, and withstand prolonged periods of these activities.
