Child Care Teacher at Blanche Ames Elementary-Full Time

About the Role

The Teacher at Blanche Ames Elementary will plan and implement a program of activities that ensures each child’s personal safety while providing enrichment, physical challenges, and learning experiences. This role upholds the Old Colony Y’s mission and adheres to EEC regulations, NAEYC standards, and YMCA policies. The ideal candidate will act as a positive role model, fostering a culture of caring, responsibility, honesty, and respect.

Responsibilities

• Understand and ensure compliance with EEC regulations, NAEYC standards, and Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care, Child Guidance, Health Care).
• Plan, develop, and implement a curriculum tailored to individual children’s interests, abilities, and cultural diversity.
• Lead daily activities, arrange the classroom, and maintain a high-quality learning environment.
• Maintain QRIS standards and act in a public relations capacity with parents, Y personnel, and potential clients.
• Supervise children in all program locations, including trips, and complete necessary documentation (accident reports, incident reports, attendance records).
• Provide input for the weekly staffing schedule and participate in monthly site staff meetings and curriculum meetings.
• Ensure the timely issuance of a monthly newsletter/calendar for families and maintain proper child behavior per YMCA policies.
• Adhere to HEPA standards for Fun/Food Curriculum and menu planning, and submit monthly Bureau of Nutrition reports where applicable.
• Establish and maintain professional growth opportunities, including training programs and conferences.
• Organize and facilitate staff meetings to ensure work plans are followed or modified as needed.
• Attend mandatory training sessions and complete at least 20 hours of childcare training annually.
• Assist with fiscal responsibilities, including supply purchases, maximizing enrollment, and supporting fundraising events.
• Ensure a clean, organized, and safe program space and communicate facility issues promptly.
• Actively participate in assigned committees, the Y’s Annual Campaign, and promote Y programs through public appearances.

Requirements

• Minimum of 18 years of age.
• Must meet EEC requirements for education and experience for Teacher certification.
• CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
• Physical examination within the last 12 months and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
• Ability to lift/move heavy equipment (up to 75 lbs occasionally, 40 lbs frequently) and perform physical tasks such as sitting, standing, bending, and moving intermittently.
• Strong oral communication skills for public speaking and team collaboration.
• Proven ability to work in a team, sustain a culture of excellence, and meet the needs of youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
