About the role

The Teacher Assistant will help plan and implement a program of activities that ensures each child’s personal safety while providing enrichment, physical challenges, and learning experiences. You will uphold the employee code of conduct and ensure all job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y and the regulating agency.

This position offers an opportunity to develop excellent skills and techniques beneficial for personal growth and future careers in child development, while working with children to foster innovation, creativity, laughter, play, and lasting relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor and lead activities for children throughout the day.
  • Help create and sustain a culture of excellence and teamwork.
  • Lift and move heavy equipment and assist with cleaning as needed.
  • Work early mornings, late nights, and weekends as required.
  • Engage in occasional public speaking.
  • Understand and apply Y-USA’s three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility.
  • Identify and meet the needs of children in the program.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 16 years of age.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
  • Evidence of a physical examination within the last 12 months.
  • Negative Mantoux TB test and immunity for measles, mumps, and rubella.
  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75 lbs occasionally, and 40 lbs frequently (children), and move intermittently during work hours.
  • Strong oral communication skills.
