About the role
Independence House, Inc. (IH) is a comprehensive domestic & sexual violence community-based agency and shelter program in Barnstable County that focuses on meeting the unique and cultural needs of survivors and their children. We provide safety, food, shelter, advocacy, counseling, and other resources to assist survivors in rebuilding violence-free lives for themselves and their children.
IH is committed to the values of inclusivity, equality, anti-oppression, non-hierarchical structure, a non-judgmental and empowerment framework. IH works closely with other agencies in the community to provide a comprehensive network of resources for survivors of domestic and sexual violence and their children.
Responsibilities
- Supervise and monitor the safety of children in a trauma-informed environment.
- Develop age-appropriate activities to engage the children while in IH care.
- Communicate with IH staff and children’s non-offending parent.
- Adhere to the confidentiality policy at IH.
- Complete all necessary paperwork for IH and reporting for the VSS grant.
- Comply with contract reporting requirements.
- Work evenings, nights, or weekends when necessary to meet program needs.
- Perform other duties as appropriate and assigned which support the staff and clients at IH.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training courses as identified by Supervisor.
Requirements
- High School Diploma and/or GED with related experience.
- CPR & First Aid Certification.
- Patience, creativity, effective communication skills, and knowledge of trauma-informed care.
- Ability to function as part of a team.
- Completion of the IH Domestic & Sexual Violence Training.
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check (CORI/SORI).
- Valid MA driver’s license, proof of vehicle insurance, and access to a vehicle during work hours.
- Account with a financial institution for direct deposit of paychecks.
Schedule
Part-time, 15 hours/week (may vary depending on need & location).
