Child Care - Instructional Paraeducator

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 6.50 hours per day with 30-minute unpaid break (8:00 AM – 3:00 PM, 7.0 total hours per day). Start Date: September 8, 2026.

Pay: $28.05/hour per the paraeducator labor agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a certified teacher, provide assistance to teachers and students in implementing lesson plans.
  • Work closely on an individual basis with students requiring close supervision and special assistance.
  • Provide support, explanation, re-teaching, and discipline.
  • Guide and work through lesson plans and projects with individual students or small groups by assisting with assignments, correcting tasks, assessing comprehension level, and recording results as established by the teacher.
  • Conduct tests and informal quizzes to assess students’ mastery of learned materials or appropriate program placement.
  • Assist the teacher in assessing and tracking student progress.
  • Explain and interpret class assignments; instruct students in the use of learning materials, computers, equipment, and texts.
  • Supervise vocational education students in performing tasks in office, classroom, and other sites in the building, including instruction and discipline as needed.
  • Monitor and evaluate behaviors of students at risk; discuss expectations of appropriate behavior with students based on school and district policy and individual needs of students.
  • Help determine and carry out consequences; recommend ideas, identify problems, or participate in problem-solving discussions at meetings.
  • Assist students in reading books, record results, and administer rewards; help students get to class and assist students during meals.
  • Chaperone students during activities away from school.
  • Locate, advise, or otherwise assist students in securing materials, books, reference materials, or other information needed for class assignments.
  • Perform clerical functions: maintain office, grade, and attendance records; file student papers; update cumulative folders; copy items needed by staff for meetings and presentations; type instructional sheets; and update computer records.
  • Maintain the classroom or facility by cleaning up, putting away equipment, cleaning desks, and other areas to maintain an orderly facility.
  • Other duties as necessary or assigned.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or GED and one of the following:
    • An AA, AS, AAS (or higher) degree, or
    • Two years of post-secondary coursework (60 semester credits or 90 quarter credits) from an accredited institution of higher education which are applicable toward a bachelor’s degree, or
    • Passing score of 460 (or higher) on the ParaPro Assessment or a passing score on Paraeducator Online.   • Must possess and display excellent human relations skills when dealing with staff, students, and the community.
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.
  • Ability to get along with other people and have patience in dealing with parents and students.
  • Ability to provide excellent customer service to students, staff, and parents.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to communicate with students, staff, and the community.
  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, and memos.
  • Ability to write correspondence.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical computations and interpret data related to student performance.
  • Ability to operate a computer and knowledge of multiple software packages.
  • Ability to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Preferred 2-year degree in Child Development.
  • Knowledge of DHS Rule 3-Child Care Teacher.
  • Experience working with young children ages 6 weeks to 15 months.
