Responsibilities
- Maintain a safe environment for children
- Follow a daily routine consistently
- Help follow through with planned activities
- Help with general housekeeping duties
- Treat all children with dignity and respect
- Attend all staff meetings and recommended training programs and conferences
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere through appropriate conflict management, courteous demeanor, and professional and appropriate communication practices
- Maintain compliance in The Salvation Army’s “Safe from Harm” Certification
- Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Pass the pre-employment background inquiry
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Patience with young children
- Team player
- Takes initiative in the classroom
- Interest and ability to work with people of diverse racial, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds in a sensitive and culturally appropriate manner
- Ability to carry out policies and procedures
- Positive, caring, and supportive role model in the classroom and community
- Able to take guidance from Teacher/Director
- Communicate well with parents in a professional manner
- Communicate well with out staff members

Physical Demands/Work Environment
- High level of movement and flexibility
- Must be comfortable working with small children
- On your hands and knees as well as crouching down several times a day to interact with the children
- Must be able to sit on the floor with children as well as sit on the small chairs
- Low impact sports and interaction with the children will often be required as well as lifting twenty-five pounds often and up to fifty pounds occasionally
- This is a high level noise position with children talking, playing and yelling several times a day
