About the role

The Grand Traverse Bay YMCA is seeking individuals to join their team and contribute to their mission of serving the community. They are currently hiring both part-time and full-time positions, offering increased compensation and childcare discounts.

Responsibilities

  • Aid in the daily care of children and implement the Creative Curriculum
  • Maintain open communication with the Lead Teacher and follow their guidance and ideas
  • Ensure a safe and fun environment for children to play, learn, and grow
  • Perform cleaning duties as outlined in the classroom cleaning checklist
  • Complete paperwork such as daily activity sheets, accident reports, and portfolio documentation for each child
  • Communicate issues, concerns, and needs to the director and other staff members
  • Participate in continuing education and in-services to enhance teaching skills
  • Follow the YMCA's mission and guidelines

Requirements

  • Position Title: Assistant Teacher
  • Reports To: Child Development Director
  • Department: Child Care
  • Classification: Part Time or Full-Time, Non-Exempt
  • Compensation: $15-$17 per hour
  • Position Summary: Support the lead teacher in the classroom by maintaining a safe, enriching, and healthy learning environment.

Qualifications

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Responsible, dependable, enthusiastic, and effective communicator
  • Previous child care experience
  • Completed Adult, Child, and Infant CPR/AED and First Aid (training provided if needed)
  • Good oral and written communication skills, including computer proficiency
  • Outgoing personality and experience interacting with the public
  • Current CDA credential (recommended)
  • Early Childhood Education or Child Development coursework (recommended)
