Responsibilities
- Plans and executes appropriate early childhood education experiences
- Works with the director and teachers to implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities
- Establishes a positive program environment for children and youth
- Assists in providing and leading planned activities for program participants
- Uses approved child guidance and youth development techniques
- Interacts professionally with staff members, parents, and the command
- Maintains program participation data and completes required daily reports
- Prepares, arranges, and maintains indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials
- Maintains control of and accounts for the whereabouts and safety of children
- Performs routine care giving tasks, helps with materials and activities, receives children, interacts with children, and attends to their physical needs
- Ensures care is provided in accordance with standards, assists in planning, conducting activities, conducting health checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, and completing reports
- Performs other duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop, and stand on a routine basis
- Ability to complete a Tier 1 background investigation and pass a Civilian Medical Clearance Examination
Qualifications
- Two years of education above high school level, including twelve semester hours of college credit in early childhood/elementary/secondary/special education, child/youth development, psychology, human development, youth program administration, or related behavioral sciences
- A one-year vocational certificate in childcare
