About the role

The Child Care Assistant (Developmental) position at the Coast Guard Exchange in Cape May, New Jersey, is a contract part-time position with an intermittent work schedule. The primary responsibility is to plan and execute appropriate early childhood education experiences to promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of children.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities in collaboration with the director and teachers.
  • Create and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials to support the daily schedule.
  • Maintain control and account for the whereabouts and safety of children at all times.
  • Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques.
  • Assist in providing and leading planned activities for program participants.
  • Perform routine care giving tasks, helping with materials and activities, receiving children, interacting with children, and attending to their physical needs.
  • Ensure care is provided in accordance with standards, assist in planning, conducting activities, performing health checks, ensuring the safety and well-being of children, and completing reports.
  • Participate in the maintenance of program participation data and completing required daily reports.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • At least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Ability to complete a Tier 1 background investigation and pass a Civilian Medical Clearance Examination.
  • Ability to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer as the Standard method of payment for payroll and travel purposes.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED certificate.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
  • Ability to promote and foster effective working relationships with children, youth, and coworkers.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 background investigation and pass a Civilian Medical Clearance Examination.
  • Ability to satisfactorily complete the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination.
  • Prior experience working with children and/or youth is preferred but not required.
