About the role
The USCG Academy Child Development Center seeks a Child Care Assistant (Developmental) to plan and execute appropriate early childhood education experiences, work with the director and teachers to implement curriculum, assist in providing and leading activities, and perform other related duties.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and activities
- Establish a program environment promoting positive child and youth interactions
- Assist in providing and leading planned activities for program participants
- Interact with children and youth using approved child guidance and youth development techniques
- Interact professionally with staff members, parents, and the command
- Maintain program participation data and complete required daily reports
- Prepare, arrange, and maintain indoor and outdoor activity areas and materials
- Maintain control of and account for whereabouts and safety of children at all times
- Perform routine care giving tasks, helping with materials and activities, receiving children, interacting with children, and attending to their physical needs
- Ensure care is provided in accordance with standards, assist in planning, and conducting activities, conduct health checks, ensure the safety and well-being of children, complete reports, and interact with parents
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED certificate
- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English
- Physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis
- Ability to complete a Tier 1 background investigation and pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination
Qualifications
- Minimum: High school diploma or GED certificate, at least 18 years of age, ability to read, write, and speak in English, physical ability to lift and carry up to 45 pounds, sit and rise from the floor, walk, bend, and stoop and stand on a routine basis, ability to complete a Tier 1 background investigation and pass the Civilian Medical Clearance Examination
- Preferred: Prior experience working with children and/or youth
