Child Care Assistant

Lifesteps is a local human services organization serving Western Pennsylvania for over 100 years, dedicated to helping individuals and families with life's changing needs through programs and services for children of all abilities.

About the role

This full-time Child Care Staff position (also known as Child Care Assistant or Assistant Group Supervisor) works Monday through Friday, daylight hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, supporting early care and education for children ages 3 to 5 years old.

Responsibilities

• Care and supervision of children ages 3 to 5 years old
• Assist with lesson planning and creating fun activities
• Supervise indoor and outdoor play time
• Inform parents about the child's day
• Clean and organize the room, toys, and equipment
• Participate in quality initiatives, such as Keystone Stars, for enhanced programming

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• 2 years of experience caring for children (paid or unpaid, such as church nursery, summer camp, or child care staff, but must involve care of other people's children)
• Ability to lift or move up to 40 pounds without assistance
• Ability to obtain acceptable PA Criminal clearance, PA Child Abuse Clearance, and FBI Department of Human Services clearance
• Ability to multi-task and work in a team environment
• Demonstrated ability to complete basic computer tasks
• Strong communication skills (verbal and written); ability to communicate information to a diverse audience

Qualifications (Preferred)

• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, Psychology, Criminology, Speech Pathology, Music Therapy, Women's Studies, CDA, or any related major
• Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Special Education, Elementary Education, or any related Human Services field

Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm.
