Provides routine childcare office support and assists with the overall administration and development of childcare center operations. May substitute in childcare classrooms when needed.
Responsibilities
- Demonstrate effective communication with professionals, parents, and children.
- Work independently while taking direction from the supervisor.
- Maintain a warm, energetic disposition and enjoy working with families and young children (6 weeks to 5 years); assist in classrooms as needed.
- Review and process child care applications and related forms for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with University, department, and regulatory policies.
- Receive, greet, and direct visitors to the appropriate person or center.
- Provide child care center orientation and child development information for parents.
- Assist with diaper bank operations as needed.
- Answer telephones, provide assistance, and direct families to the correct person or office.
- Return calls and emails in a timely manner.
- Process and answer parent questions promptly via phone or email.
- Create and maintain child files, service agreements, schedules, and related documentation.
- Schedule appointments with parents and arrange tours and orientation meetings.
- Answer questions about the organization and associated activities.
- Perform tasks using Microsoft Word, Excel, EZ Care, and other browser programs; excellent computer skills required.
- Assist in classrooms as needed or instructed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Incumbents are expected to be familiar with department policies and procedures and have a working knowledge of University and department organizations to assist staff and visitors.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalency required.
- Customer service experience or equivalency, with demonstrated human relation and effective communication skills.
- One year of full-time childcare experience or equivalency (e.g., HeadStart, preschool, or childcare licensing).
- At least 21 years old.
- Pass a BCI and fingerprint background check.
- Willing to obtain first aid training.
- Demonstrated skills in Microsoft Office and management software.
- Meet physical requirements for job duties, including:
- Sufficient vision to read small printed material and supervise children across playgrounds and classrooms.
- Sufficient hearing to understand normal and telephone conversations.
- Ability to speak clearly and audibly in office and classroom environments.
- Ability to lift small children (up to 50 lbs) and carry them short distances.
- Ability to move about on hands and knees, sit on the floor with children, and exhibit physical stamina for daily interaction with young children (walking, kneeling, sitting on floor, etc.).
- Physical dexterity to use a pen, operate a computer keyboard, and perform repetitive motions.
Qualifications
Equivalency Statement: 1 year of higher education can substitute for 1 year of directly related work experience (e.g., a bachelor’s degree = 4 years of experience).
- Administrative Assistants, III: Requires 3+ years of related experience.
- Child Development Associate (CDA), Associate’s, or Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education preferred.
- More than two years of childcare center experience preferred.
- Experience with NAEYC and Department of Health Child Care Licensing rules and regulations preferred.
Pay
$19.00 per hour.
Schedule
Full-time, days with occasional nights and weekends.
