Child and Youth Program Direct Hiring Event - August 19, 2026
About the event
Naval Base Kitsap is hosting a direct hiring event for Child and Youth Programs on August 19, 2026, from 1000-1300 PST at Jackson Park School Age Care (618 Snoqualmie Pass St, Bremerton, WA 98312). Resumes are strongly encouraged but not required. Pre-employment drug testing may be required for certain positions upon offer and acceptance.
Available positions
- CYP Assistant (CY 1702-01/02) – Provide specialized developmental care and instruction for children and youth, including arrival/departure assistance, diapering, feeding, toileting, resting, developing games and learning activities, observing/evaluating development levels, maintaining records, and mentoring Program Assistants.
- CYP Leader (CY 1702-02) – Provide specialized developmental care and instruction, mentor Program Assistants, and perform duties across mentor, curriculum, indoor/outdoor environment, interactions/relationships, supervision, parent/employee communication, assessment, and compliance categories.
- CYP Cook (NA 7404-08) – Prepare, cook, season, and portion food following standardized recipes; monitor temperatures and steam pressures; evaluate food condition during cooking; modify recipes for quantity and equipment size.
- CYP Food Service Worker (NA 7408-04) – Assist with food preparation (peeling, cutting, sorting, washing, sandwich assembly, measuring/weighing ingredients); stock food service carts; wrap/arrange/package items for serving; clean serving carts, preparation areas, cupboards, drawers, dishwashing areas; perform heavy-duty cleaning (ceilings, exhaust hoods, under/behind equipment, floors/walls with powered equipment, walk-in refrigerators/freezers, garbage room sanitation); label/date items and store leftovers per sanitation standards.
- CYP Custodian (NA 3566-02) – Perform custodial and housekeeping services (sweeping, mopping, cleaning bathroom/kitchen fixtures, changing paper towels, washing windows, dusting, waxing floors/furniture, emptying/washing trashcans); inspect grounds for trash/debris and notify supervisor of safety hazards.
Conditions of employment
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Complete required training certificates and maintain certifications/credentials required by Federal, State, or national accreditation institutions used in DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
- Pass all applicable records and background checks.
- Undergo pre-employment and random drug testing. Positive test or failure to submit is basis for removal.
- Pass pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunizations.
- Employment contingent upon proof of education if not provided at time of application.
- Marijuana is a Schedule I drug under federal law; positive test for marijuana or any tested drug results in withdrawal of tentative job offer and ineligibility to apply for DoD positions for 6 months from test date.
- This is a Test Designated Position (TDP); incumbent must consent to pre-employment and random drug testing.
Qualifications
CYP Leader (CY 1702-02)
Must have one of the following:
- Completion of DoD Standardized Module Training AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04) Level; OR
- Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or Military School-Age (MSA) credential AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04) Level; OR
- Minimum 2-year degree in Youth Development, Child Development, Recreation, Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Early Childhood Education, Psychology, Social Work, Home Economics with emphasis in Human Development, or related field AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04) Level.
Knowledge of developmentally appropriate programs for children ages 6–18; maturity and judgment for emergencies; skill in leadership, mentoring, and guidance; ability to develop curriculum outlines and lesson plans; organizational skills for planning/scheduling; strong interpersonal skills; able to speak, read, and write English.
CYP Assistant (CY 1702-01/02)
GSE-02 (Entry Level): Must be 18 years of age, high school graduate or equivalent (GED), able to lift 40 pounds, and pass required security and health checks.
GSE-03 (Intermediate Level): Meets GSE-02 requirements, plus six (6) months experience working with children or youth in a child/youth setting AND completion of child abuse modules and modules 1-3 of DON Standardized Module Training. Knowledge of basic child/youth development principles; ability to plan/organize work, interpret curriculum/activity plans, and follow written instructions.
GSE-04 (Target Level): Must possess one of: CDA credential or MSA credential; OR completion of DON Standardized Module Training AND 12 months experience with children/youth; OR a 2-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, or related field. (If hired at GSE-04, must complete Navy module program within 18 months.) Organizational skills for planning/scheduling; strong interpersonal skills; able to speak, read, and write English.
CYP Cook (NA 7404-08)
- Knowledge of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures.
- Thorough knowledge of full range of food preparation principles, techniques, and procedures to develop/revise recipes and prepare/cook food in large quantities.
- Working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination (cleaning equipment after raw food use, chemical sanitizer or proper water temperature for dishes).
- Skill to overcome production problems, evaluate final products, and initiate corrective action when standards not met.
- Ability to coordinate quantity food production with varied cooking methods, timing, ingredients, and interrelated steps.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, verbally and in writing.
CYP Food Service Worker (NA 7408-08)
- Knowledge of food handling techniques, personal hygiene standards, and safe work procedures.
- Knowledge of basic arithmetic to count tables/serving bowls and determine serving yields.
- Working knowledge of sanitation standards and procedures to prevent contamination (cleaning equipment after raw food use, chemical sanitizer or proper water temperature for dishes).
- Skill to overcome production problems, evaluate final products, and initiate corrective action when standards not met.
CYP Custodian (NA 3566-02)
- Knowledge of chemical and cleaning agents.
- Skill to use household and industrial equipment and attachments; operate, clean, and adjust powered cleaning equipment.
- Physical ability to move furniture, lift/move objects over 50 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English, orally and in writing, with strong interpersonal communication skills.
Education requirements
- All positions: High school diploma, GED equivalent, or secondary school diploma.
- Entry Level (CY-1702-01): At least 18 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent.
- Intermediate Level (CY-1702-01): At least 18 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent, six (6) months experience with children/youth in a child/youth setting, AND completion of Navy Entry Level training requirement (Army, Air Force, Marine equivalent accepted).
- Target Level (CY-1702-02): At least 18 years of age with high school diploma or equivalent, one (1) year experience with children/youth in a child/youth setting, AND one of: Completion of DoD standardized training courses; OR valid CDA credential or MSA credential; OR minimum 2-year degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development, Youth Recreation, Physical Education, Elementary Education, Secondary Education, Youth Development, or other field related to Pre-K or Primary Education.
- Lead Level (CY 1702-02): Completion of DoD Standardized Module Training AND 12 months experience at CY-II (GSE-04) Level; OR Child Development Associate (CDA) credential with corresponding experience.
