About the role

The Child and Youth Program Custodian provides semi-skilled labor and cleaning tasks for CYP facilities, including Child Development Centers (CDCs), School Age Care (SAC) programs, Youth Programs, Child Development Home (CDH) offices, and lending libraries. Custodial activities are performed without disrupting child and youth routines, often outside of program operating hours.

Responsibilities

  • Perform custodial and housekeeping services according to established specifications.
  • Clean floors by sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, and polishing; clean carpets.
  • Wipe mirrors, metal doorplates, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and all metal fittings.
  • Clean showcases, entrance doors, activity spaces/classrooms, doorframes, switches, paper towel dispensers, and other surfaces as required.
  • Clean glass partitions, inside and outside windows; use stepladders and extension ladders to change light bulbs, replace blinds, and wash walls.
  • Dust, wax, and polish furniture, ensuring dusting is done out of children’s reach.
  • Empty and wash trashcans; inspect grounds, remove trash and debris, and report safety hazards to supervisor.
  • Maintain restrooms in a clean, orderly, and sanitary condition; clean, disinfect, and deodorize lavatories; replace deodorizers, toilet tissues, hand towels, and soap.
  • Report water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring repairs to supervisor.
  • Sweep sidewalks and parking lots.
  • Operate powered cleaning equipment, clean and oil equipment, and change brushes and accessories.
  • Maintain cleaning supplies and advise supervisor when supplies are needed or equipment requires repairs or replacement.
  • Ensure all custodial equipment, supplies, and materials are approved by the health consultant or safety officer.
  • Keep hallways, stairways, entrances, and doorways unobstructed by cleaning or maintenance operations or storage of equipment and materials.
  • Store custodial supplies and equipment properly in locked cabinets or closets away from child and youth activity rooms.
  • Load and unload merchandise, equipment, and supplies; assemble equipment.
  • Occasionally (less than 10% of the time) deliver merchandise, equipment, and supplies to other locations.
  • Move, set up, and rearrange furniture; set up and break down for special events.
  • Comply with security, fire, and sanitation rules, policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Serve as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services for suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect, as prescribed by local policy.

Requirements

  • Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
  • Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check; any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
  • Ability to sustain considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
  • Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
  • Ability to complete required training certificates and maintain certifications or credentials required by Federal, State, and/or national accreditation institutions used as part of DoD's Child and Youth Programs.
  • Starting May 7, 2025, non-affiliated individuals requesting access will need a REAL ID-compliant driver’s license or another acceptable form of identification to access CNRMA Installations.

Qualifications

Resumes must demonstrate experience and knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) relevant to this position. Applicants are encouraged to be clear and specific when describing their experience level and KSAs. A qualified candidate possesses:

  • Knowledge of a variety of chemical and cleaning agents.
  • Skill in using a variety of household and industrial equipment and attachments.
  • Skill in operating, cleaning, and making adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
  • Physical ability to move furniture, lift and move objects over 50 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.

Education

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Must provide a copy of your H.S. Diploma, GED, or College Transcripts (showing degree awarded/conferred) when you apply.
