About the role
The Child and Youth Program Custodian position at CYP facilities involves performing a variety of semiskilled labor and cleaning tasks. Duties include sweeping, mopping, stripping, scrubbing, waxing, polishing floors and carpets; wiping mirrors, metal doorplates, bathroom and kitchen fixtures, and other surfaces; dusting, waxing, and polishing furniture; emptying and washing trashcans; inspecting grounds; maintaining restrooms; cleaning, disinfecting, and deodorizing lavatories; reporting water leaks, clogged drains, and other conditions requiring repairs; sweeping sidewalks and parking lots; operating and maintaining cleaning equipment; and using and maintaining cleaning supplies.
Responsibilities
- Helps with all custodial and housekeeping services according to established specifications.
- Does not disturb child and youth routines during custodial activities.
- Performs cleaning services when programs are not in operation and children and youth are not present.
- Maintains cleanliness and orderliness of restrooms and grounds.
- Operates and maintains cleaning equipment and supplies.
- Ensures that hallways, stairways, entrances, and doorways are not obstructed by cleaning or maintenance operations or storage of equipment and materials.
- Stores custodial supplies and equipment properly in locked cabinets or closets away from child and youth activity rooms.
- Moves, sets-up, and rearranges furniture; sets-up and breaks-down for special events.
- Serves as a mandatory reporter to Family Advocacy and Child Protective Services as prescribed by local policy in the case of suspected incidences of child abuse and neglect.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must satisfactorily complete all background checks for child care positions, including fingerprint checks, a Tier 1 with Child Care check, and a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check.
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical, provide evidence of immunization, be free of all communicable diseases, and obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases.
- Must have the ability to sustain considerable walking, standing, bending, stooping, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
- Must successfully obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance as needed.
- Must possess knowledge of a variety of chemical and cleaning agents, and skill to use a variety of household and industrial equipment and attachments.
- Must be able to operate, clean, and make adjustments to powered cleaning equipment.
- Must have the physical ability to move furniture, lift and move objects over 50 lbs, walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing, and possess strong interpersonal communication skills.
