About the role
Provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs.
Actively supervises and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events.
Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials which includes group and individual activities.
Helps arrange for or serve appropriate snacks or meals.
Identifies and responds to emergency situations including evacuations, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs.
Requirements
- Conditions of employment: Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required. Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment. A one year probationary period may be required. Satisfactory completion of an employment verification (E-Verify) check. This position has been identified as having regular contact with children under the age of 18. Favorably adjudicated background checks are required. Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth. Employee is required to obtain appropriate immunization against communicable diseases in accordance with recommendations from the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
- Physical requirements: Possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis. Must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, to comply with sight and sound supervision requirements, and to provide immediate responses when applicable. Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
- Other requirements: Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must be at least 18 years of age. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Must complete all DoW and Service training requirements within the specified time including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training requirements, and any required certifications. Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
Qualifications
- Entry Level (CY-01): Must be at least 18 years of age. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must have relevant experience working in group programs with children/youth.
- Skill Level (CY-01): Must be at least 18 years of age. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must have relevant experience working in group programs with children/youth. Must have completed Entry Level DoW standardized training courses OR equivalent industry training OR six (6) semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education.
- Target Level (CY-02): Must be at least 18 years of age. Hold a high school diploma or equivalent. Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must have relevant experience working in group programs with children/youth. Must have completed Skill Level DoW standardized training courses OR Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) Credential OR 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education; child and youth development, special education, Human Development, Youth Program Administration, Recreation (children and youth), Physical Education or directly related behavioral sciences (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology for the family).
