Child and Youth Program Assistant CY-01/02.

Responsibilities

• Provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs.
• Actively supervises and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events.
• Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials, including group and individual activities.
• Helps arrange for or serve appropriate snacks or meals.
• Identifies and responds to emergency situations including evacuations, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
• A one year probationary period may be required.

• This position has regular contact with children under the age of 18; favorably adjudicated background checks are required.
• Subject to immunization requirements, including influenza vaccine, as a condition of employment for working with children and youth.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, provide evidence of immunization, and be free from communicable disease.
• For positions in Child Development Centers, must possess and maintain the physical ability to lift and carry up to 40 lbs., walk, bend, stoop, and stand on a routine basis.
• Must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, comply with sight and sound supervision requirements, and provide immediate responses when applicable.
• Legally required to report all suspected incidents of child abuse/neglect.
• Must complete all Department of Defense (DoD) and Service training requirements within specified timeframes, including orientation, initial, and annual ongoing training, and any required certifications.
• Must maintain current CPR and First Aid certifications.
• May work an uncommon tour of duty to include evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate varying program operating schedules.
• Duties may involve working both indoors and outdoors; occasional indoor and outdoor field trips may be required.
• Willing and able to work a schedule Monday-Friday between 5:30 PM-10:00 PM, overnight shifts 10:00 PM-5:30 AM, weekends, and holidays with open availability.
• Willing and able to work on a flexible basis; scheduled 0-39 hours per week based on the need of the activity, with no guaranteed hours.

Qualifications

• Entry Level (CY-01):
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• Skill Level (CY-01):
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Minimum of 6 months experience working in group programs with children/youth.
  • Completion of Entry Level DoD standardized training courses OR equivalent industry training OR six (6) semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education.
• Target Level (CY-02):
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Hold a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Minimum of 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principles of child/youth development.
  • Completion of Skill Level DoD standardized training courses OR Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) Credential OR 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education; child and youth development, special education, Human Development, Youth Program Administration, Recreation (children and youth), Physical Education, or directly related behavioral sciences (developmental psychology, child psychology/sociology for the family). General psychology/sociology coursework is not qualifying.

Note: College transcripts or certificates may be required at the time of application for applicants who want to be considered for Skill or Target level.

Education

• At minimum, a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Proof of education is required at the time of application.
• Education must be directly related to the position to be filled; general education courses do not count toward the credit total.
• All education documents must be in English or have a translated copy provided.
• To meet entry-level requirements, upload a copy of your high school diploma, high school transcript (showing completion date), GED certificate, or proof of a college degree.
• To meet requirements beyond entry level, a college transcript showing coursework or certifications will be required to validate higher-graded qualifications.

Schedule

• Flexible positions with a work schedule Monday-Friday between 5:30 PM-10:00 PM, overnight shifts 10:00 PM-5:30 AM, weekends, and holidays with open availability.
• Scheduled 0-39 hours per week based on the need of the activity, with no guaranteed hours.
