About the role

Provides appropriate developmental care and instruction for children and youth, ranging in age from 6 weeks to 18 years in Child and Youth Services (CYS) programs. Actively supervises and accounts for whereabouts and safety of children and youth during daily routines, indoor and outdoor activities, on field trips, outings, and special events.

Responsibilities

• Assists in implementing planned, developmentally appropriate activities, schedules, and routines for children/youth using prepared curriculum, activity plans, and materials which includes group and individual activities.
• Helps arrange for or serve appropriate snacks or meals.
• Identifies and responds to emergency situations including evacuations, child/youth illness, and physical and emotional needs.

Requirements

• Must be at least 18 years of age at time of appointment.
• Direct Deposit and Social Security Card is required.
• A one year probationary period may be required.
• Satisfactorily complete an employment verification (E-Verify) check.
• Favorably adjudicated background checks are required.
• Position is subject to immunization requirements as a condition of employment for working with children and youth.
• Must pass a pre-employment physical and subsequent physicals, thereafter, provide evidence of immunization and be free from communicable disease.

Qualifications

Resumes must be two pages (or less). Resumes should clearly demonstrate the applicant's relevant experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSAs) as they pertain to this position.

• For Entry Level (CY-01): Must hold a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
• For Skill Level (CY-01): Must have a minimum of 6 months experience working in group programs with children/youth and completion of Entry Level DoW standardized training courses OR equivalent industry training OR six (6) semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education, child and youth development, or special education.
• For Target Level (CY-02): Must have a minimum of 12 months experience working in group programs with children/youth as well as demonstrated knowledge in theories and principles of child/youth development and completion of Skill Level DoW standardized training courses OR Child Development Associate (CDA) or Military School-Age (MSA) Credential OR 12 semester hours of college credit in early childhood, elementary, or secondary education; child and youth development, special education, Human Development, Youth Program Administration, Recreation (children and youth), Physical Education or directly related behavioral sciences.

Education

At minimum a high school diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) is required. Proof of education is required at the time of application. Note: Education must be directly related to the position to be filled.

Skills

Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing. Must have the visual and auditory capabilities to supervise children and youth, to comply with sight and sound supervision requirements, and to provide immediate responses when applicable.

Pay

This job is part of a pay-banded system. Sunday premium pay for regularly scheduled employees and night differential pay may be authorized by the Garrison Commander.

Schedule

May work an uncommon tour of duty to include evenings, weekends, and holidays to accommodate varying program operating schedules. Regular Part-Time positions have a minimum work week of 20 hours and are eligible for benefits. Child and Youth Services (CYS) Flexible appointments are not guaranteed hours, however, may be scheduled 0-40 hours each work week with an irregular schedule.
