Child and Family Therapist - Outpatient

The Child and Family Therapist in the Specialized Services for Youth department assumes responsibilities common to all direct service and administrative positions as outlined in the Agency Manual.

Responsibilities

• Provide treatment services including assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning and individual/family/group therapy to a caseload of youth (ages 4-21, mental health or co-occurring with substance use) and their families.
• Develop and use various modalities of service offered by the agency.
• Work with the whole family, understanding their situation and dynamics, and empowering individuals and families to advocate on their own behalf.
• Provide referrals or assistance with social determinants of health, including physical health, cultural, employment, educational, social or financial needs, in coordination with the Outpatient Case Manager.
• Maintain clinical records in accordance with Agency, licensing, accreditation, Oakland Community Health Network (OCHN), and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) standards and requirements.
• Coordinate cases with treatment team, psychiatric staff, peer specialists, CLS/respite providers, school staff, probation, courts, protective services, OCHN, physicians, and any other appropriate staff.
• Participate in professional development activities on a variety of clinical topics, including evidence-based practices and interventions, based on caseload need and therapist interest.
• Attend specialized supervision groups for TF-CBT, SUD, licensure, and high-risk cases as assigned by supervisor.
• Perform administrative tasks related to assigned caseload and other work assignments as required by the agency.
• Provide assistance, support, and leadership to other staff members through consulting, teaching, and other means as appropriate.
• Coordinate program activities when assigned to do so.
• Incorporate principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion in work processes and job functions.
• Promote a welcoming, belonging, and accepting environment for all clients and staff.

Requirements

• Successful completion of the requirements of a master’s degree from an accredited school of social work or equivalent in related fields such as psychology or guidance and counseling.
• State certification or licensure, commensurate with accrued experience and degree obtained. (LLMSW, LMSW, LLPC, LPC, TLLP, LLP, LLMFT, LMFT).
• A minimum of two years of experience in the examination, evaluation, and treatment of minors and their families post master’s degree.
• Experience working in the Community Mental Health System, substance abuse qualifications, experience with youth with serious emotional disturbances, family systems work, trauma-informed care, and use of evidenced-based models.
• Sensitivity to the diversity of the agency’s service population, including but not limited to differences of culture, race, religion, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status.
