About the Role

Shape the future of veterinary medicine without losing sight of the people practicing it. At Innovetive Petcare, we believe the best veterinary organizations are built by supporting great doctors, developing great leaders, embracing innovation, and giving hospitals the tools they need to thrive—without losing what makes each practice unique. We are seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO) who shares that philosophy and wants the opportunity to make a visible, meaningful impact.

We are large enough to provide meaningful resources, investment, technology, and development opportunities—but still at a scale where our CMO can know our doctors, understand our hospitals, and personally influence the direction of the organization. We believe growth should be responsible and intentional. Our goal is not to acquire practices as quickly as possible. Success for us is growing thoughtfully while taking great care of the hospitals already entrusted to us, the clients and pets they serve, and the team members who make that care possible.

Responsibilities

  • Advance medical excellence, veterinarian engagement, leadership development, technology adoption, and the long-term strength of our veterinary community.
  • Build relationships, share expertise, develop leaders, introduce new ideas, and help our doctors and hospitals become even stronger while preserving their medical autonomy.
  • Help doctors build on their strengths, develop new skills, explore leadership opportunities, and envision what’s next in their careers.
  • Identify and develop future Medical Directors and veterinary leaders—building a strong leadership bench by investing in the growth of our doctors.
  • Champion technology and innovation, exploring how emerging technologies (AI, clinical documentation, diagnostics, communication platforms, practice management technology, and workflow automation) can improve the veterinarian, team, and client experience.
  • Translate technology into practical solutions for real clinical and operational challenges and bring others along as veterinary medicine evolves.
  • Maintain a visible presence across Innovetive hospitals, spending time in practices, listening to doctors, understanding local dynamics, and remaining connected to clinical practice.
  • Serve as a trusted resource for hospitals encountering difficult medical, leadership, regulatory, or operational challenges.
  • Partner with veterinarians, Medical Directors, Practice Managers, and operational leaders.
  • Bring the veterinary perspective into organizational decision-making as a member of Innovetive's senior leadership team, contributing to strategy, investments, acquisitions, technology, and growth.

Requirements

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM or VMD) degree and active veterinary license in good standing.
  • 10+ years of veterinary clinical experience.
  • Multi-site leadership experience.
  • Previous experience as a Practice Owner, Medical Director, Regional Medical Director, or other senior veterinary leader.
  • Demonstrated success assessing, mentoring, and developing veterinarians and veterinary leaders.
  • Strong understanding of veterinary operations, staffing, financial performance, and hospital leadership.
  • Genuine enthusiasm for technology, innovation, and advancing how veterinary medicine is practiced.
  • Exceptional communication, coaching, relationship-building, and change-leadership skills.

Location: Austin, TX preferred. At a minimum must live near a major airport within our hospital regions, such as Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Charlotte, or Miami.

What Success Looks Like

We will know our CMO is successful when our veterinarians trust their medical leadership, our Medical Directors are stronger, our leadership bench continues to deepen, useful technologies are embraced rather than merely implemented, and our hospitals feel both supported by Innovetive and empowered to succeed.

Pay

  • Competitive compensation.
  • Sign-on bonus to support your transition into the role.
  • Relocation assistance available, if needed.
  • Annual performance bonus tied to organizational and individual impact.
  • Equity opportunity, providing the potential to share in the long-term growth and success of the organization.
