Our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students annually and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. We are committed to hiring and retaining a diverse, culturally competent staff who reflect the demographics of our students and invest in their ongoing development to serve our student population effectively.

About the Role

The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and operational oversight of the college’s technology infrastructure, systems, and digital transformation initiatives. This position is responsible for developing and executing technology strategies that support teaching, learning, research, and administrative excellence—while ensuring cybersecurity, data integrity, and the ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI). The CTO leads efforts to integrate AI technologies, digital tools, and emerging innovations to enhance learning environments, improve operational efficiency, and advance institutional goals. This role requires both strategic foresight and hands-on technical expertise to align technology investments with the college’s mission and the Virginia Community College System’s (VCCS) priorities.

The CTO will provide collaborative regional leadership within the VCCS One System framework by partnering with the VCCS CIO to align technology strategy and governance with enterprise priorities, advance shared solutions and operational efficiencies, promote innovation and best practices, and strengthen service quality, security, modernization, and fiscal stewardship across the system. This position represents the college in systemwide IT governance by actively participating in the Technology Leadership Council (TLC) and includes a dual reporting relationship to the college Vice President of Strategy, Innovation, and Technology and a dotted-line relationship to the VCCS CIO.
