Chief Surveyor
Amentum is seeking a Chief Surveyor for the North of Las Vegas, NV area.
About the Role
The Chief Surveyor performs routine to technical survey duties to establish, maintain, and update Government-compatible range target databases that reflect range roads, targets, locations, target configurations, and road conditions. Duties are performed at multiple locations on contract sites associated with Target Operations. Functioning independently or as chief of a survey party, performs field surveys engaged in plane and/or geodetic surveys for construction, topographic, as-built/record, engineering, GIS data collection, and control survey projects.
Responsibilities
- Accountable for the collection and maintenance of contract GIS-related documentation associated with Range Target Operations.
- Conducts and provides oversight of survey operations ensuring data quality.
- Produces, distributes, and/or assists with the development of work product and documentation in accordance with contract requirements for target operations.
- Manages Target Operations database for accuracy, updating, and alignment with current target activities.
- Assists with Range Clean operations, updating the targets database immediately as operations are completed.
- Reviews and follows target operation procedures, policies, USAF Instructions, manuals, technical orders, and DOD instructions, policies, and procedures pertaining to range target operations.
- Responsible for collecting all range, target, and road status data and updating databases.
- Makes detailed field notes of record data and field observations containing tabular and graphical data in accordance with established standards for survey field notes.
- Utilizes automated field survey codes and equipment to collect and document survey data in accordance with project-specific requirements.
- Reads, analyzes, and interprets engineering/construction plans and performs field survey work from blueprints, shop drawings, and sketches.
- Assists supervisor in developing deadlines, projects, and work to be completed.
- Keeps supervisor informed of progress, potentially controversial matters, or far-reaching implications.
- May assist in the training of others associated with providing comprehensive survey services.
- Performs all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Five years of Plane and Geodetic Survey experience.
- Related experience involves performing field data collection using electronic survey measuring instruments and related electronic collecting devices.
- Working knowledge in operating surveying equipment, including electronic theodolite total station, levels, data collector, and GPS equipment.
- Proficient in PC, MS Office Software, and AutoCAD.
- Strong written and oral presentation skills.
- Excellent organization skills and ability to work both collaboratively and autonomously.
- Strong logical and analytical problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Ability to qualify for and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.
- Valid state-issued driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledgeable and conversant in USAF and DOD Instructions for Range Target Operations.
- Current Secret Security clearance.
Work Environment
Work is performed regularly outdoors, exposed to all weather conditions. Requires the ability to stand for prolonged periods and must be able to occasionally work at heights. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Such positions involve regular handling, grasping, kneeling, walking on uneven surfaces, climbing hills, climbing ladders, work at heights, and constant use of vision and mental alertness. Possess correctable vision for viewing objects using surveyor devices and scopes. Outside work in hot, cold, or wet weather is often required.

Pay
$44.84 per hour. The compensation range or hourly rate listed is a good-faith estimate at the time of posting. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as job responsibilities, education, experience, skills, internal equity, market data, applicable collective bargaining agreements, and relevant laws.
