Chief Operating Officer

About the role

We incubate viral consumer brands for the US and EU markets and scale them until they become independent companies. In the last 14 months we took three apps, in three unrelated verticals, from zero to over $70M in combined annual run rate. You'd own all operational, legal, and corporate functions across the portfolio.

Responsibilities

• Operations across the portfolio
  • Ultimate owner of every operational function across our brands.
  • Own supply chain timelines end to end, ensuring launches and restocks stay on schedule.
  • Own CX outcomes across email, live chat, and phone, including response times, resolution rates, CSAT, and cost efficiency as volume grows.
  • Operationalize new initiatives and departments, including hiring the teams to run them.
  • Build systems and reporting to identify potential issues before they arise.
• Corporate and legal
  • Lead corporate structuring and IP management across the studio and its portfolio.
  • Single point of contact for external counsel in every jurisdiction; manage relationships and briefings.
  • Stand up new entities in new jurisdictions and spin brands out as they mature.
  • Support equity structuring, ownership, cap table decisions, and finalize intercompany agreements.
  • Lead compliance across the portfolio, staying ahead of brand needs.
  • Own trademark strategy and prosecution: clearance searches, filings, oppositions, renewals, and enforcement.
  • Handle copyright registration and manage the wider IP estate, including asset transfers during spin-outs.
  • Ensure all statutory and regulatory filings are completed on time across every entity and jurisdiction.
• Business development
  • Engage with partners, platforms, and representatives to open new channels.
  • Build relationships that unlock scale in distribution, supply, payments, media, and other critical areas.
  • Support major transactions, including M&A, acquisitions, and business sales.
  • Maintain commercial infrastructure, from payment processors to marketplace relationships.

Requirements

• Senior operator from a venture studio, startup, holding company, or multi-entity business.
• Experience running operations at scale: supply chain, customer experience, or both, in a high-growth environment.
• Strong understanding of international corporate structures, IP, and equity.
• Proven experience directing external counsel across jurisdictions and standing up entities in new markets.
• Hands-on with trademark and copyright work, including clearance searches, filings, oppositions, and enforcement.
• System for managing compliance and filing calendars across multiple entities with disciplined execution.
• Track record of building teams and departments from scratch, including hiring.
• Strong commercial and business development instincts; comfortable opening doors cold.
• Exposure to consumer brands, D2C, or subscription businesses; understands contribution margin, retention, and CAC.
• Comfortable operating at a strategic level while diving into details when necessary.
• Based in Sydney or willing to relocate.
