About the role
We are looking for a Chief of Staff for Finance and Operations: a high-agency, operator who can translate priorities into execution, create clarity from ambiguity, and help the Finance and Operations leadership team scale effectively, leveraging AI whenever possible, and without adding unnecessary bureaucracy.
Responsibilities
- Build and run the Finance and Operations operating cadence, including annual and quarterly planning, weekly leadership updates, meeting agendas, decision logs, follow-up systems, working documents, and cross-functional coordination;
- Create clear, polished presentations and briefing materials for Foundation leadership, the board, and relevant committees;
- Maintain clear visibility across major Finance and Operations priorities, including tracking owners, milestones, dependencies, risks, decisions, and escalation points;
- Support reporting by coordinating inputs, maintaining timelines, synthesizing key variances and tradeoffs, and helping translate financial information into actionable recommendations for leaders;
- Drive cross-functional execution on initiatives that span Finance, Operations, Legal, People, Recruiting, IT, program teams, and executive leadership by clarifying roles, sequencing decisions, surfacing blockers, and ensuring reliable handoffs and follow-through;
- Prepare and coordinate high-quality materials for leadership, board, and committee discussions leveraging AI, including financial and operating updates, decision memos, dashboards, pre-reads, and follow-up actions; ensure the underlying information is accurate, consistent, and decision-useful;
- Own scoped strategic and operating projects that need a reliable operator, from standing up a new process or system, improving an end-to-end workflow, mapping organizational capacity, or turning a messy operating problem into a clear recommendation and implementation plan.
Requirements
- Have 8+ years or equivalent experience in a chief of staff, finance, business operations, strategic operations, FP&A, program management, consulting, startup operations, nonprofit operations, or similar role;
- Have built and run planning processes, trackers, dashboards, templates, operating rhythms, or source-of-truth systems for fast-moving teams;
- Be exceptionally organized, detail-oriented, and calm under ambiguity;
- Turn wide-ranging discussions and complex financial or operational information into clear briefs, board-ready presentations, dashboards, recommendations, decisions, and next steps;
- Use discretion and good judgment with sensitive financial, employee, board, vendor, grant, and internal strategy information;
- Be energized by both systems-building and hands-on follow-through;
- Have strong interpersonal instincts: warm, direct, service-oriented, and able to work effectively with senior leaders, functional heads, program teams, board members, advisors, vendors, and external partners;
- Be deeply mission-aligned and excited to help ensure AGI benefits all of humanity.
Qualifications
- Experience supporting finance, FP&A, accounting, treasury, grant operations, people operations, procurement, systems, or other operational functions in a scaling or mission-driven organization;
- Experience coordinating annual planning, board or committee reporting, systems implementations, or cross-functional operating initiatives;
- Experience deploying AI agents and automations that remove repetitive work, improve reporting and visibility, strengthen controls, and increase a team’s operating capacity.
