About the role

The Chief of Staff is a full-time, unclassified, at-will position. Unclassified, at-will positions are not covered by the County of San Mateo Civil Service Rules. The position ideally requires working closely with the Supervisor throughout their tenure with the County.

Responsibilities

  • Research and analyze public policy and legislative issues
  • Develop and implement strategic initiatives based on analysis and recommendations
  • Engage with residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to identify and address community issues
  • Provide support to the Supervisor in managing day-to-day operations and long-term strategic planning

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., public administration, political science, business administration)
  • Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in a leadership role within a governmental or non-profit organization
  • Experience in public policy research and analysis
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously

  • Proven ability to conduct thorough research and analysis of public policy and legislative issues
  • Experience in developing and implementing strategic initiatives based on analysis and recommendations
  • Effective engagement with residents, community organizations, and other stakeholders to understand community needs and develop effective solutions
