Chief of Security

Responsibilities

• Oversight of daily security operations
• Ensuring compliance with regulations, rules, policies, and procedures
• Supervision of staff
• Selecting, hiring, evaluating job performance, employee training and development, promoting, and disciplinary actions
• Safety and security training for security personnel
• Development of security policies and revision of existing policies
• Planning and responding to emergency situations
• Directing searches for escaped offenders
• Participation in the formulation of escape and riot control plans
• Training staff in the execution of plans, use of weapons, and control procedures
• Serving as a committee member on training, budget, and policy review boards
• Assisting in the establishment of long-range plans and schedules
• Assisting in community planning efforts
• Discussing operational issues with shifts
• Responding to significant or unusual occurrences on a 24/7 basis

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED certification
• Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences or related field (preferred)
• Five (5) years of progressive work experience in a correctional environment (two (2) years must include management experience)
• Ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of others
• Ability to treat staff and inmates consistently following policies and procedures
• Above average verbal and written skills
• Ability to disseminate instructions and reports clearly and accurately
• Working knowledge of program objectives, policies, correctional laws, and facility management
