About the role

The City of Minneapolis is conducting a national search for an accomplished, collaborative, and strategic law enforcement executive to serve as the next Chief of Police. This role offers an exceptional opportunity to lead one of the nation's most recognized municipal police departments while shaping the future of public safety in a vibrant, diverse, and progressive community.

The Minneapolis Police Department serves approximately 425,000 residents across 59 square miles, with an annual operating budget of $229 million and an authorized workforce of 969 employees, including 731 sworn positions. Reporting to the Commissioner of Community Safety, the Chief oversees all department operations and collaborates with City leadership, community stakeholders, and local, state, and federal partners to strengthen public safety, organizational performance, and public confidence.

Responsibilities

• Lead organizational change and manage complex operations to improve performance and operational effectiveness.
• Strengthen constitutional policing practices and build trusted partnerships within the community.
• Develop high-performing employees and foster a strong organizational culture.
• Promote accountability, continuous improvement, and integrity in all department operations.
• Continue implementation of the Minnesota Department of Human Rights Settlement Agreement and advance the City's commitment to the proposed federal consent decree.
• Strengthen public confidence in the Minneapolis Police Department.

Pay

The City of Minneapolis offers a highly competitive executive compensation package with an annual salary range of $289,941 to $340,938. Placement within the range will reflect the selected candidate's qualifications and experience.
