ContinueCARE Hospital is a 37-bed Long Term Acute Care Hospital (LTACH) located on the fifth floor of our host hospital, Baptist Health Paducah in Paducah, KY. Under the direct supervision of the CEO, the Chief Nursing Officer (CNO) will provide day-to-day operations of the clinical services, ensuring competency, staffing levels, and quality of nursing care while operating under the ANA Standards of Practice. As a key member of the leadership team, the CNO will shape the future of the organization by overseeing nursing operations, driving quality initiatives, and fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

  • Conveys CHC/hospital's values and acceptable behavior to all stakeholders through own actions; creates an organizational climate that encourages teamwork, builds employee engagement, collaborates, accepts accountability, and produces quality results.
  • Defines and implements operational standards, policies, and procedures for nursing care; assesses, meets, and evaluates patient population needs.
  • Collects and analyzes data from internal and external sources to improve operations; conducts needs analysis and prioritizes improvements.
  • Establishes a single organized nursing service with an administrative structure, ensuring all nursing services are provided or supervised by a registered nurse with at least one RN on duty at all times.
  • Demonstrates commitment to excellent customer service, meeting or exceeding patient expectations.
  • Promotes quality and safety by incorporating nationally recognized professional standards into policies and procedures; encourages identification of process improvements and acts to implement changes.
  • Oversees preparation and management of operating, special project, and capital budgets for nursing; ensures productivity measures and revenue cycle support; meets financial metrics.
  • Determines staffing requirements and ensures adequate numbers of competent, credentialed, trained, and engaged staff; directs performance management systems, including feedback, recognition, and corrective action.
  • Collaborates with medical staff to resolve issues affecting nursing care and patient care; fosters open communication and harmonious relationships.
  • Demonstrates effective interpersonal relations, influencing and persuading at all levels; builds rapport and trust through frequent communication.
  • Works with community leaders to assess healthcare needs, build a positive hospital image, and market services; participates in civic activities.
  • Accurately assesses developmental needs; provides feedback, coaching, and personal development opportunities; addresses performance issues promptly.
  • Sets clear, consistent goals and expectations; holds self and others accountable; demands high performance and delivers results; creates an ownership culture.
  • Advocates for change, helps staff understand its benefits, and involves stakeholders in the process; follows through on change initiatives.
  • Retains all nursing-related hospital accreditations, licensures, and designations in good standing; maintains compliance with laws and regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited university program; MSN preferred or enrolled and progressing toward an MSN.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the state of Kentucky.
  • Minimum of three years of direct patient care experience in a LTACH or acute care setting; LTACH experience highly desirable.
  • Critical care experience preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of nursing management experience (e.g., nursing manager, director, or CNO).
