Chief Marketing & Communications Officer
About the role
The Chief Marketing & Communications Officer (CMCO) serves as a member of the Executive Leadership Team and strategic advisor to the President & CEO. The CMCO leads brand strategy, marketing, communications, public relations, digital engagement, membership growth support, community storytelling, and reputation management across the Association. The CMCO also partners with executive leadership to drive revenue, promote community impact, and support fundraising across Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility. The CMCO is responsible for ensuring a consistent and compelling Association-wide brand presence while utilizing data, market intelligence, and audience insights to strengthen engagement, support growth, advance the YMCA mission throughout the Greater Philadelphia region, and strengthen the Association's position as a leading community-impact organization.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Serve as strategic advisor to the President & CEO on brand, reputation, market positioning, and communications.
- Lead enterprise brand strategy across all branches and programs.
- Build powerful public narratives that elevate the YMCA's community impact, thought leadership, and role as a trusted community partner.
- Establish and maintain enterprise-wide brand standards, messaging, visual identity, and member experience.
- Support membership growth, retention, program participation, and member engagement through integrated marketing initiatives.
- Lead public relations, media relations, stakeholder communications, crisis communications, and reputation management strategies across the Association.
- Direct Association-wide communications, including employee, donor, executive, and stakeholder communications.
- Lead digital marketing, website strategy, social media, CRM, audience engagement, and emerging technology initiatives to support organizational growth.
- Partner with organizational leaders to advance fundraising, sponsorship, community partnership, and revenue-generating initiatives through strategic marketing and communications.
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing marketing and communications team.
- Serve as the steward of the Association's brand, reputation, and community voice across the Greater Philadelphia region.
Operational Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and track success of annual marketing and communications plans aligned with the Association's growth objectives and community impact goals.
- Manage the Association marketing budget.
- Oversee creative services, agency relationships, and brand standards.
- Oversee the development, production, and quality of Association-wide marketing materials across print, digital, and emerging communication channels, including program brochures, camp materials, advertising, promotional collateral, and branded communications.
- Support and coordinate branch marketing efforts.
- Establish and monitor key marketing performance indicators including brand awareness, audience engagement, campaign effectiveness, membership growth support, and return on marketing investment.
- Lead local implementation of YMCA of the USA marketing, branding, and communications initiatives.
Requirements
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Communications, Business, Public Relations, or related field.
- Ten or more years of progressive leadership experience.
- Experience leading integrated marketing and communications functions.
- Demonstrated success in growth-oriented marketing strategies.
- Experience leveraging data, analytics, AI, and emerging technologies to inform marketing decisions, improve organizational performance, and enhance audience engagement.

Pay
$200,000 – $225,000
