About the Role

The Chief Inspector is responsible for the overall operation and compliance for inspection and non-destructive testing, ensuring all inspections are properly performed on completed work before release to the customer. This role maintains proper inspection records, reports, and forms used by the repair station.

Responsibilities

  • Assists, supervises, and directs all personnel assigned to inspection and non-destructive testing.
  • Collects and maintains files on work orders and inspection forms for easy retrieval.
  • Performs periodic checks on inspection tools and precision test equipment.
  • Develops and maintains a system for tracking calibration of inspection tools and precision test equipment.
  • Executes FAA Form 337 and the maintenance release for all items released to service.
  • Supervises preliminary, hidden damage, inspection continuity, and final inspection of all processed items.
  • Executes and submits Service Difficulty Reports as required.
  • Ensures rejected and unserviceable parts are properly identified and returned to the customer or disposed of with permission.
  • Maintains a current “Roster of Management, Supervisory and Inspection Personnel.”
  • Ensures materials subject to shelf life are properly controlled, inspected, and removed from service when expired.
  • Maintains a current library of required maintenance manuals, service bulletins, airworthiness directives, and FAA regulations.
  • Establishes and administers a corrective action system to identify and resolve quality problems.
  • Prepares information for submission to the FAA, including updates on the repair station’s capabilities.
  • Performs review inspections on aircraft and components to monitor work quality and standards.
  • Conducts occasional/random work package audits to ensure compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations.
  • Directs the performance of “self-audits” of internal quality systems at the customer’s request.
  • Assists in preparing budgets and manpower forecasts.
  • Analyzes and interprets quality data to improve Quality Assurance functions.
  • Performs special assignments and projects as directed by the Director of Quality Assurance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation.
  • A&P License (required).
  • 5-7 years’ experience in inspection and certification of aircraft products.
  • Experience with aerospace quality systems that meet FAA requirements.
  • Experience working with and interpreting precision measurement instruments.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of safety and operating procedures for power-on aircraft.
  • Adherence to FAA regulations and safety protocols.
  • Understanding of hand tools and precision instruments.
  • Ability to work quickly and efficiently in a safe, professional manner.
  • Effectively manage others while ensuring quality work.
  • Performs inspections on aircraft systems, parts, and components.
  • Proficient in MS Office, Lotus Notes, and company policies and procedures.

Working Conditions

  • Able to work flexible hours and different shifts if required.
  • Ability to work in a safe, professional manner adhering to OSHA, EPA, State, and Federal regulations.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator as per OSHA 29 CFR 1910.134 without restrictions.
  • Subject to an annual vision test.
  • Employees are subject to the FAA/Drug/Alcohol program.
