The Department of Financial Protection and Innovation (DFPI) is California’s financial regulator, working to protect consumers by examining and licensing financial activities and taking action against unfair, deceptive, or abusive practices. We oversee state-chartered banks, credit unions, student loan servicers, and more. The DFPI has office locations in Los Angeles, Sacramento, San Diego, and San Francisco.

About the role

The DFPI is recruiting for one, permanent, full-time Manager II position within the Human Resources Office, located in the Sacramento office. This recruitment may be used to fill subsequent vacancies of this position within the next 180 days.

The DFPI is seeking a highly skilled and strategic leader to serve as Chief of the Human Resources Office. Reporting to the Deputy Commissioner of Administration, the Manager II provides high-level leadership and oversight of all human resources programs and functions supporting a complex, statewide regulatory department. This position plays a critical role in shaping DFPI’s workforce strategy, ensuring compliance with civil service rules, advancing modernization efforts, and supporting executive leadership through sound judgment, data-informed decision-making, and effective people management.

Pay

$9,572.00 - $10,867.00 per month. New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.

Requirements

  • Four years of work experience performing analytical, technical, clerical, or customer service duties. Academic education from an accredited college/university may be substituted for the required experience on a year-for-year basis.
  • An additional four years of professional analytical and/or technical experience, two years of which must be equivalent to a Supervisor I or higher.
